Ascend

telling the stories of a collective of passionate and curious student creatives, engineers, artists, coders, startup founders, etc. attempting to rekindle a culture of building and experimentation in Calgary 🚀

Every week in the top floor of a house cafe, dozens of people gather to work on their passion projects - it's something simple, but incredible special, and in some cases, extremely impactful. I can say this from personal experience.

I was able to develop my passion and skillset for filmmaking every week I came to Ascend, both learning how to develop my skills, but also receiving the support i needed to keep going. In addition, I got greater exposure to the world, gaining a more holistic understanding of who people are. We have become a community of hundreds of students, each with our own diverse experiences and networks - that is something I am incredibly proud to have had a role in building.

Since becoming a member of Ascend at some of their first sessions, I've never missed any opportunity to share our stories with our city and the world. From our regular sessions to leading a marketing campaign for our first large scale event and demo day, The Rodeo, I've ensured all the stories that come out of Ascend are seen by the city and the rest of the world, all while pushing my own creative limits with how we share these stories.

Founders Inc, SF

a singlular video tweet caught the attention of San Francisco VC, Founders Inc, which led to a funded trip to create mini films at the Off Season, a 6-week accelerator program designed to host high school and college students

I posted one of my first tweets tweet lol. This is wut happened

I posted a video applying to be part of the Off Season, a 6-week program designed for student builders.

It went viral. kinda (ig 31k on X is viral ish…)

I got accepted but was given another offer - to be paid as a member of the Founders Inc team for 2 weeks where I'd make content for the Off Season, but also work closely with the engineering teams there.

It became one of the best experiences I've had. I hold this trip very close to my heart because of the people i met. Truly an amazing experience.

Making a video about it right now. Stay tuned

not just an ordinary moniker, its a personal brand i've been trying to build. Confused?

who tf is Apple Juice? it's me. 🧃

Since 2018, I've had an Instagram account, named theapplejuiceizy, but it's only been since 2020 since I started casually making content.

What turned into a casual hobby, became my biggest passion. To make stuff and put it out in the open for others to judge. The goal was never virality, it was building an audience.

I've used my account to showcase my photography work for the last 5 years, building my craft and then transitioning from a pure photography account into a films/photos blend account.

The account isn't just an account, but it represents years of brand building, creative evolution and building a taste for the art I wish to create. If nothing else, I simply want it to be a place where I can best showcase who I am creatively, as a person.

The Archive S25

creating a launch video for The Archive S25, a micro-grant meant to fund your wildest adventures and sidequests.

My friend from Ascend, Rumeza Fatima, created a microgrant but here's the problem. She needed a video.

She came to me and I helped bring her vision to life. It became one of the most creative launch videos I've made because it tells a story more uniquely than anything I've made. It's got it quirks but it's a good video no doubt. It got 100k views across 3 different platforms.

S25 cohort video coming soon…

SIYS

Struggle Is Your Success (SIYS) is a Calgary local non-profit that gave me my start, so I gave back.

SIYS was my first exposure to having an "entrepreneurial mindset". Yes it sounds like a bot statement, but hear me out. To think entrepreneurially, is to think with an opportunistic and growth mindset. It's about advocating for the things you want to build and experience. For me, that was an incredibly impactful experience that pivoted my direction as an individual.

So for 2025, I became the sole Youth Ambassador for SIYS, aiming to bring more exposure to SIYS through my work as an individual and produce content that could bring attention of youth towards the organization.

Representing this organization through my work is the least i can do for a cause that assists kids in understanding the world through an entrepreneurial lens.

Made a lot of cool videos for them.

The Legacy

the first film i decided to make was an insane attempt to make a feature film. i was semi-successful.

At 17, I decided to make a self-directed, self-filmed, self-written, self-edited short film called The Legacy. I directed a crew and cast of over 2 dozen actors and crew members. It I may not have been the best project I've worked on but it was my first and it is by far the biggest project I've worked on. I got to screen it in front of an audience of 200 people and it marked the beginning of my entrance into the world of filmmaking and storytelling,

so yeah i guess it's okay to put it here…
